How To Enjoy The Movies With These 10 English Vocabulary Words
It looks like a grand time to watch a movie. Do you like going to the movie theater? Or do you enjoy a nice movie at home with the family? Regardless, movies are fun to watch and a great source of entertainment.
I have to admit I love going to the theater to watch a movie. But, it has been over a year since I have gone to a movie theater. I watch primarily watch Netflix and stream movies. But, it doesn’t matter where I love movies.
This week you will learn and practice ten movie related vocabulary words. Read each word out loud and repeat throughout the day.
1. Cinema- ˈsɪnɪmə,ˈsɪnɪmɑː/ (noun) a theater where films are shown for public entertainment.
2. Film- fɪlm/ (noun) a thin flexible strip of plastic or other material coated with light-sensitive emulsion for exposure in a camera, used to produce photographs or motion pictures.
3. Animation- anɪˈmeɪʃ(ə)n/ (noun) the state of being full of life or vigor; liveliness.
4. Camera- ˈkam(ə)rə/ (noun) a device for recording visual images in the form of photographs, film, or video signals.
5. Box Office- (noun) a place at a theater, cinema, etc. where tickets are bought or reserved.
6. Movie- ˈmuːvi/ (noun) a cinema film.
7. Projector- prəˈdʒɛktə/ (noun) a device that is used to project rays of light, especially an apparatus with a system of lenses for projecting slides or film onto a screen.
8. Location- lə(ʊ)ˈkeɪʃ(ə)n/ (noun) a particular place or position.
9. Extra- ˈɛkstrə/ A background actor or extra is a performer in a film, television show, stage, musical, opera or ballet production, who appears in a nonspeaking or nonsinging (silent) capacity, usually in the background (for example, in an audience or busy street scene).
10. Reel- riːl/ (noun) a cylinder on which film, wire, thread, or other flexible materials can be wound.
In summary, enjoy a great movie this week. Next week you will practice using the words in a sentence.
