Understanding The Top 10 Supermarket Vocabulary Words Week 3

Going to the grocery store can be exciting.  At Least we can make it enjoyable.  The best thing is to understand what you are reading and making the right decisions.

My passion is teaching and coaching. I am here to let you know that you can reach out to me if you need help.  These words will help you navigate inside a grocery store.  Have fun and reach out if you have any questions.

Review the words and the definition.  Practice throughout the week and next we will use them in a sentence.

Coupon - noun - a voucher entitling the holder to a discount off a particular product.

Change - noun - coins as opposed to banknotes.

Sales tax - noun - a tax on sales or the receipts from sales.

Purchase - noun - acquire (something) by paying for it; buy.

Delivery - noun - the action of delivering letters, parcels, or goods.

Receipt - noun - the action of receiving something or the fact of its being received.

Customer - noun - a person who buys goods or services from a shop or business.

Supervisor - noun - a person who supervises a person or activity.

Manager - noun - a person responsible for controlling or administering an organization or group of staff.

Barcode - noun- a machine-readable code in the form of numbers and a pattern of parallel lines of varying widths, printed on a commodity and used especially for stock control.

A Guide To Your Supermarket Vocabulary Words Week 2


Learning everyday words can be exciting. How was your supermarket trip last week?  Did you practice your new words?  This week we will focus on expanding and using them in a sentence.  


It’s funny how I picked up on words when I went shopping this week.  I looked around and enjoyed the new words myself.


Below you will find last week’s words and a sentence to clarify further its meaning. Enjoy.


Beverage - noun - /bɛv(ə)rɪdʒ/ -(chiefly in commercial use) a drink other than water. Sally asked for a beverage with her lunch; she requested a coke.  


Fruit - noun - /fruːt/ -the sweet and fleshy product of a tree or other plant that contains seed and can be eaten as food. My favorite fruit is the banana because it is sweet and delicious.  


Vegetables - noun - ˈvɛdʒtəb(ə)l a plant or part of a plant used as food, such as cabbage, potato, turnip, or bean. I am trying to eat more vegetables.


Fish - noun - fɪʃ/ -a limbless cold-blooded vertebrate animal with gills and fins living wholly in water. I try to eat fish twice a week.


Meat - noun - miːt/ -the flesh of an animal, typically a mammal or bird, as food (the flesh of domestic fowls is sometimes distinguished as poultry.) My doctor concerned with my blood pressure suggested that I eat less red meat.  


Groceries - noun - /ˈɡrəʊs(ə)ri/ -a grocer's shop or business, items of food sold in a grocery or supermarket. I get my groceries done by Friday every week.


Flowers - noun- /ˈflaʊə/ -The seed-bearing part of a plant, consisting of reproductive organs (stamens and carpels) that are typically surrounded by a brightly coloured corolla (petals) and a green calyx (sepals).  I love to decorate my home with fresh flowers.


Cashier - noun- /kaˈʃɪə,kəˈʃɪə/- a person handling payments and receipts in a shop, bank, or business.  The cashier gave me the exact change.


Check-out counter - noun- is a place in a store where customers go to pay for the goods they want to buy. I met my friend by the checkout counter at the store.


Bakery - noun- /ˈbeɪk(ə)ri/ - a place where bread and cakes are made or sold. The bakery is at the end of the store.

In summary, these vocabulary words are easy and fun.  Keep practicing and come up with your sentences.  Have a great day.

Having Fun At The Supermarket With English Vocabulary

Together we have explored dining in a restaurant, traveling, communicating in the workplace.  Now it is time to have fun while shopping at a supermarket.

Years ago I didn’t like going to the supermarket, but it turns out I love it now.  I enjoy picking fresh fruits, reading nutrition labels and stocking up with fantastic food for the week.  

That’s when I realized that it is a great start to incorporate vocabulary words that are common while shopping at your local supermarket.  Are you ready?  

I will repeat the process.  This week we will learn the new words and next week we will use them in a sentence. Have fun and always reach out to me if you have any questions.  Here we go.

10 Most Common English Words Used In A Meeting


Hello and welcome to this week's vocabulary bonanza.  I will share with you vocabulary words in the everyday world.  This week we will continue with the workplace theme and practice words used in meetings.


I Came from a corporate environment, and I have used these words several times. Some of them you may know, but there might be a couple that you will learn for the first time.  Have fun, practice and next week we will be using them in a sentence.  


How often do you spend time in meetings?  I bet at least a couple of hours a week.  This list will help you.   I found this great site during my research Desk Demons feel free to visit and explore.  

Adjourn: to hold a meeting over until a later date.


Agenda: a schedule of items drawn up for discussion at a meeting.


Apologies: excuses given in advance for inability to attend a meeting.


Attendance list: in some committees, a list is passed around to be signed as a record of attendance


Casting vote: by convention, some committee chairmen may use a 'casting vote' to reach a decision, if votes are equally divided


Committee: a group of people usually elected or appointed who meet to conduct agreed business and report to a senior body


Eject: remove someone (by force if necessary) from a meeting


Executive: having the power to act upon taken decisions


Point of Information: the drawing of attention in a meeting to a relevant item of fact


Minutes: the written record of a meeting; Resolution minutes record only decision reached, while narrative minutes provide a record of the decision-making process
