A Guide To Your Supermarket Vocabulary Words Week 2


Learning everyday words can be exciting. How was your supermarket trip last week?  Did you practice your new words?  This week we will focus on expanding and using them in a sentence.  


It’s funny how I picked up on words when I went shopping this week.  I looked around and enjoyed the new words myself.


Below you will find last week’s words and a sentence to clarify further its meaning. Enjoy.


Beverage - noun - /bɛv(ə)rɪdʒ/ -(chiefly in commercial use) a drink other than water. Sally asked for a beverage with her lunch; she requested a coke.  


Fruit - noun - /fruːt/ -the sweet and fleshy product of a tree or other plant that contains seed and can be eaten as food. My favorite fruit is the banana because it is sweet and delicious.  


Vegetables - noun - ˈvɛdʒtəb(ə)l a plant or part of a plant used as food, such as cabbage, potato, turnip, or bean. I am trying to eat more vegetables.


Fish - noun - fɪʃ/ -a limbless cold-blooded vertebrate animal with gills and fins living wholly in water. I try to eat fish twice a week.


Meat - noun - miːt/ -the flesh of an animal, typically a mammal or bird, as food (the flesh of domestic fowls is sometimes distinguished as poultry.) My doctor concerned with my blood pressure suggested that I eat less red meat.  


Groceries - noun - /ˈɡrəʊs(ə)ri/ -a grocer's shop or business, items of food sold in a grocery or supermarket. I get my groceries done by Friday every week.


Flowers - noun- /ˈflaʊə/ -The seed-bearing part of a plant, consisting of reproductive organs (stamens and carpels) that are typically surrounded by a brightly coloured corolla (petals) and a green calyx (sepals).  I love to decorate my home with fresh flowers.


Cashier - noun- /kaˈʃɪə,kəˈʃɪə/- a person handling payments and receipts in a shop, bank, or business.  The cashier gave me the exact change.


Check-out counter - noun- is a place in a store where customers go to pay for the goods they want to buy. I met my friend by the checkout counter at the store.


Bakery - noun- /ˈbeɪk(ə)ri/ - a place where bread and cakes are made or sold. The bakery is at the end of the store.

In summary, these vocabulary words are easy and fun.  Keep practicing and come up with your sentences.  Have a great day.
