5 Tips On How To Improve Your Vocabulary Through Reading
It is important to learn new words to speak fluent English. Always practice and keep adding new words to your vocabulary.
I still learn new words daily. I will always read articles and books to increase my vocabulary. It doesn’t matter your English level.
Below I will share with you seven tips on how to improve your vocabulary through reading.
1. Read an article out loud
Depending on your level, get a piece that seems a bit hard and force yourself to read it. The more you do this, the better you are going to get. It is going to feel uncomfortable, but don’t let it intimidate you. When you read out loud you listen to your voice and build your confidence.
2. Re-read the article to yourself
Quietly read the article to practice and listen to your internal voice.
3. Re-read the article and highlight unfamiliar words
Now you want to identify words that are new to you. By emphasizing the word, it lets you know which words you are going to add to your new vocabulary list.
4. Look up the definitions of unfamiliar words
Grab a dictionary and get busy. Look up the definition and learn it.
5. Re-read the article to understand
After you are familiar with the definition, re-read the article. Now you will understand it and feel great.
In summary, this is what I encourage you to do. Get busy building your vocabulary.
